About Us

Our Aims Beliefs And Approach

We aim to raise awareness and highlight a massive cohort of young people who live in a home where there is parental mental ill health.

Our beliefs are that we want every child in Suffolk who lives with parental mental health illness to feel supported and listened to.

They're given the opportunity to be able to learn and understand more about the illness, and who they can turn to when feeling scared, lost and worried about their parent/carer.

Our approach is to train staff within young people's settings to be able to support these children and their families, to have a good understanding of mental health and to be a trusted adult helping the child make sense of their feelings.

Giving the parent and young person a safe space to have those conversations that matter.

Who is Suffolk#WeMatter For?

We work to support any child/young person who has a parent/carer with poor mental health but the first couple of years of the Charity's development have been focused predominantly on those in Key Stage 1 and 2.

The Hidden Child

Many children grow up with a parent who has a mental health illness, currently, there is no legislation which states these young people have to be identified.

Understanding the impact on young people is crucial for providing support, as professionals, we know that sadly, this can have a negative impact on the young person, the family unit, and the young person's future.

Also, how it can go totally unnoticed in schools, and within the young person's community, due to a number of reasons, but mainly, because we do not acknowledge it, or talk about it.

At Suffolk#WeMatter we aim to train staff within young people's settings to be able to support these children and their families.
