Suffolk#WeMatter was born out of the Ipswich Connect programme which brought multi agency groups together to address and solve difficult local issues.
Each group presented their proposals to a panel including Integrated Care Board (ICB) and Suffolk County Council (SCC) representatives and successful projects were awarded start-up funding.
The Suffolk#WeMatter project was seen as addressing a significant gap for children living with an adult who has a diagnosed mental health condition and awarded grant funding.
Following the successful award of start-up funding the Suffolk#WeMatter charity was registered and a Board Of Trustees was formed to oversee the implementation of the strategy.
Suffolk#WeMatter works with all and any organisations that support children and young people, particularly schools but also Early Help, NHS and Mental Health Support Teams, youth groups, family groups and third sector providers.
We work to support children to become stronger emotionally where they have a parent/carer who has poor mental health.
We train trusted adults (Mental Health Leads in schools) to share resources and coping methods for the young person/child to help them understand the mental health condition and how to manage when their parent/carer may have a mental health condition.
We aim to raise awareness, identify and support children who are living in a household where a parent/carer has poor mental health.
We offer training to trusted adults in the young persons life so they can offer resources and coping methods to help them understand and manage the effects of the adults mental ill health on themselves.
